MEET OUR STAFF

Staff Introduction for GEOS ESL Study English and TOEFL iBT Vancouver

This month we would like to introduce you to one of our teachers, Kiran.

Kiran was born and raised here and is a true Vancouverite. Kiran has always had a passion for teaching and has a great deal of experience teaching in the classroom as well as volunteering for various educational organizations. Kiran gained most of her ESL teaching experience here in Vancouver, but she has also had the opportunity to work overseas in South Korea and India. Kiran started working for us in 2009, and students love her open and engaging style. Students have said that she ‘communicates clearly’ and ‘gives lots of examples’, so it’s ‘easy and fun to learn’. As someone who grew up here, Kiran welcomes the chance to introduce students to this beautiful city and help them achieve their language goals!

WHAT's HAPPENING IN VANCOUVER IN NOVEMBER

The NHL Hockey season is well under way- Go Canucks! If you can't make it to the actual game, you can always visit one of the many places in Vancouver that show the games on big screen TV's. We're also gearing up for Skiing and Snowboarding season! Epic snowfalls, huge verticals, expansive backcountry, diverse terrain, spectacular scenery and a mild winter climate provide the backdrop for big mountain skiing at winter resorts and family-friendly ski hills. Vancouver is home to no less than three ski areas, Grouse Mountain, Cypress and Seymour. While a two-hour drive north finds the award-winning resort town of Whistler, featuring epic runs across Whistler and Blackcomb mountains.

STUDENT TESTIMONIAL

Student Testimonial and Review of GEOS Vancouver, ESL School

Vancouver is a city surrounded by nature. I really enjoyed riding a bike in Stanley Park, climbing Grouse Mountain, tasting different foods, walking around the city and discovering the magic of Vancouver. In my opinion, I really found the classes highly amazing. Each teacher has a different style and approach, so I could learn a lot from them and improve my English. My best memory at GEOS was the day that I arrived and saw the school decorated for Halloween! I also joined the 'Movie Day' and it was very organized and we could share that moment with other students of the school and we ate the typical chocolate cookies and popcorn. I also went to see a hockey match which we could feel the good Canadian atmosphere. Geos staff members and teachers are really helpful. They gave me lots of advice not only for improving my language, but also in everyday life here.

Student Testimonial, Rating, and Review of GEOS Vancouver, ESL School

Vancouver has good weather in the summer - not too humid. It has a lot of parks, mountains and beaches. I like all the different things we did in class - excursions, presentations, discussions. My best memory of GEOS is the Potluck Party. I ate a lot of food from different countries! I did many activities. I went to Queen Elizabeth Park, a famous gelato shop, Stanley Park and a bowling alley. I really enjoyed it. I've been here for 6 months and I learnt a lot!

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

October is a great month in Vancouver - the crisp fall air, the changing colours of the leaves, the Thanksgiving Holiday spent with family and friends, and best of all, Halloween!! We all love Halloween, so we really wanted students to get into the spirit and enjoy it! Our first stop was the Dunbar Haunted House - a few screams and lots of fun for our students from Brazil, Spain, Mexico and Saudi Arabia. You can check out a couple of pictures below. Our Halloween Party is planned for October 31st, and we're looking forward to seeing all the great costumes students come up with.

But even with all the Halloween fun, we still have time for Canada's national pastime - hockey! We went to our first Vancouver Giants game of the season to see some great hockey action!
